Young musicians from Wakefield Music Services were totally inspired on the 8th October when they visited the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester to see the RNCM Session Orchestra.
The orchestra played an eclectic mix of classic and contemporary popular music showcasing the versatility and quality of the performers and the craft and skill of the team of arrangers. Each song was arranged for the ensemble by students from the School of Composition and Popular Music Programme and the audience were entertained with a set that included M People, Michael Jackson, George Michael and Aretha Franklin.
Ben Whiteley who plays in various WMS groups, including the Youth Percussion Ensemble, Jazz Orchestra and Manygates Rock Band said ”
The RNCM Session Orchestra is the only major ensemble at the college to bring students from across every school of study and every year group from new 1st year students to postgraduates! The RNCM Session Orchestra have previously appeared at Media City UK, Birmingham Symphony Hall, Manchester Academy and at charity and corporate events across the UK. You can find out more at: RNCM Session Orchestra
The opportunity to see such excellent role models and professionals who have taken the next steps on their musical journey is an important part of what the Music Hub tries to offer young musicians. Trips like these are entertaining but they offer so much more!
Manygates Music Centre and Wakefield Music Services hope to run a similar trip next year giving many of our students the chance to enjoy another one of RNCM Session Orchestra’s fantastic concerts!
Next up is for many of these young people is a performance at the Winter Concert next week.
