Each week over 3,500 children in Wakefield learn to play musical instruments for free through whole class tuition!
These exiting ‘First Access’ programmes run in all but one primary school and give all young people the opportunity to experience the richness of instrumental ensemble playing. The programmes are taught by fully qualified WMS staff and involve a whole class learning the same instrument for an hourly lesson a week for a full year. Instruments taught include violin, lower strings, guitar, ukulele, brass ensemble, recorder, flute, classroom percussion, samba and African drumming.

These fun lessons also include singing, musical games and rhythm work and help to develop the young person as a whole. Classes perform in assembly, in concerts and in music festivals such as Music For Youth.
